China Global Television Network, or CGTN, is a multi-language, multi-platform media grouping. It consists of six TV channels – including a 24-hour English-language news channel – a video content provider and a digital media division. Their website is CGTN.com.
CGTN broadcasts live 24/7 from studios in Beijing, Nairobi (Kenya) and Washington, DC, USA. The broadcast may be found on CBC’s MCTV, Channel 209, or on Youtube, by a search for CGTN live. This live broadcast and streaming channel combines news, sports and features, worldwide. It is distinguished by the fact that the studio feed shifts from Beijing to Nairobi to Washington DC over the course of the day. As it does so, it picks up programmes from the other CGTN channels, such as Africa Live, Americas Nowand Travelogue.
Also on Youtubeyou will find CGTN Africa, with a daily newshour programme Africa Live, plus Global Business Africa,and a number of feature articles, all emanating from the Nairobi studio, with African anchors and reporters.
CGTN feature presentations online include Dialogue,Full Frame, Travelogue,Talk Africaand Americas Now.On Dialoguepresenter Yang Rui interviews international experts on topical issues ranging from the US-China trade war to cultural and social issues.Full Frameemanates from the Washington studios; topics of recent programmes include a new railway express from Belgium to China, the chalk creatures of Ann Arbor and China’s path out of poverty. Travelogueis an adventure tourism programme that travels the length and breadth of China, seeking out authentic local cultures and experiences. OnTalk Africa, presenter Beatrice Marshall interviews African leaders and celebrities in politics, society and culture. Americas Nowis a weekly news magazine about economics, politics and society in Latin America.
CGTN Documentary, on MCTV Channel 518 and on Youtube, features documentaries on the food, landscape, visitor attractions, customs and habits, history and legends of China. The longer features are broken up into half-hour segments. A recent series focused on China’s mega-projects in energy and transportation.
The ABCF mission is to build a deeper understanding between the Chinese people and Barbadians and Caribbean people from all walks of life. The association’s focus is on personal experiences, people-to-people contact, cultural exchanges and exchanges of ideas, and the facilitation of travel, business and study. From the outset we aim to learn from and build on the experiences of the Caribbean and China, and to develop mutual understandings and support that will be to the benefit of both sides.
